Villaseca de la Sagra launches 26th Alfarero de Oro novice bullfighting festival
The municipality of Villaseca de la Sagra in Toledo officially presented the 26th edition of the Alfarero de Oro novilladas, scheduled for 3–10 September 2026 with a traditional break on 8 September for the Virgen festival. The program features a slate of young bullfighters, including Iker Fernández “El Mene”, Jesús de la Calzada and local novice Gorka Jerez, who will make his debut with lights. The event will showcase cattle from prominent ganaderías such as Ana Romero, Pedraza de Yeltes, Conde de Mayalde, Montealto, Alcurrucén, José Escolar and the Sons of Celestino Cuadri.
A documentary titled “25 years of the Alfarero de Oro” premiered at the presentation, chronicling the tournament’s history since its inception. The traditional “concurso de recortes” will be held on 7 August ahead of the novilladas, using cattle from the Monteviejo ganadería. The festival remains a key reference in Spain’s novice bullfighting calendar, highlighting both tradition and the promotion of new talent.
