Villavicencio Council elects Édgar Iván Balcázar as municipal comptroller
The Villavicencio Council has elected attorney Édgar Iván Balcázar as the new municipal comptroller for the 2026-2029 term. Balcázar secured 12 out of 15 votes, following a prolonged selection process that lasted seven months and ten days. The delay was attributed to legal injunctions, council member impediments, and resignations that altered the final list of candidates.
Balcázar succeeds Carlos López and has stated his intention to strengthen municipal fiscal management and ensure the proper use of public resources without necessarily increasing the number of fiscal findings.
Separately, Diego Garay, president of the Villavicencio Council, reported on the results of the second period of ordinary sessions. During this period, the Council reviewed 15 projects and approved 12. Notable among these was the creation of a fund dedicated to supporting initiatives for women.
