Villaviciosa and El Paso award honorary citizenship to local heroes

The town council of Villaviciosa will discuss on Thursday a proposal to posthumously grant the title of Hijo Predilecto to Dr. José Pando y Valle, who died in 1926. The honor coincides with the centenary of his death and recognises his contributions to Spanish medicine, including founding the College of Physicians of Madrid and directing several public health institutions.

In the Canary Islands, the municipal plenary of El Paso unanimously approved opening a file to name Don Domingo Guerra Pérez as Hijo Adoptivo of the municipality. The parish priest, serving the community since 2004, is being honoured for more than two decades of pastoral, social and humanitarian work, highlighted by his recent 60‑year anniversary of priesthood.
