Villaviciosa announces rural tribute following livestock contest suspension

The Mayor of Villaviciosa, Alejandro Vega Riego, has announced a special program for the upcoming 'Día del Concejo' and 'Concurso del Portal' to be held on September 15 at the La Barquerina grounds. Under the theme ‘Villaviciosa, Tierra Ganadera’, the event serves as an alternative to the traditional Cattle Contest-Exhibition.

The traditional livestock exhibition has been suspended this year due to sanitary restrictions imposed by the Directorate General of Livestock and Agricultural Health regarding Lumpy Skin Disease (Dermatosis Nodular Contagiosa). To honor local farmers and preserve rural culture despite these restrictions, the municipality will host a 'Mercáu Rural' featuring agri-food products, crafts, machinery, and local associations.
