Villaviciosa commemorates 40 years of Spain's General Health Law
The town of Villaviciosa will commemorate the 40th anniversary of Spain's General Health Law on Friday, August 28. The event features the presentation of the book ‘Así se creó el Sistema Nacional de Salud’ (How the National Health System was Created) by Pedro Sabando Suárez.
Sabando Suárez, a doctor and former Undersecretary of Health and Consumption, played a key role in the development of the 1986 law. The legislation was a turning point for Spanish healthcare, establishing a universal, public system funded primarily through taxes rather than relying on social security contributions.
The event, organized by the Ateneo Obrero in collaboration with the local City Council, will take place at 19:30 in the Ateneo Obrero's assembly hall. It will include a colloquium moderated by Alonso Puerta, former Vice President of the European Parliament.
