Villazón mother investigated for attempted poisoning of two children

Authorities in Villazón, Potosí, are investigating an attempted infanticide involving a mother and her two children, aged 3 and 9. The mother, identified as Liliana A. S., is accused of providing the children with a toxic substance, reportedly rat poison, in a private residence.

The children were assisted by their grandmother and rushed to San Roque Hospital for emergency treatment, including intestinal lavage. The mother also ingested the substance and was hospitalized alongside the children. While all three survived, the three-year-old remains under medical observation.

Preliminary investigations suggest the motive may be linked to financial distress, as the mother reportedly expressed being overwhelmed by debt. The Public Ministry has opened a formal investigation for attempted infanticide and has issued an arrest warrant for the woman.
