Ville Niinistö to run for Finnish Parliament in Uusimaa

European Parliament Member and former Environment Minister Ville Niinistö has announced his candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Finland, running in the Uusimaa constituency. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Green League chairperson Sofia Virta in Vantaa.

Niinistö cited the need to restore Finland’s status as a leader in education, research, and technology as a primary motivation for his return to domestic politics. He emphasized that investing in education, from early childhood to higher education, is essential for securing the funding base of the welfare state and ensuring intergenerational equality.

Additionally, Niinistö expressed a desire to advance environmental and climate policies, noting disappointment with recent setbacks in water and forest protection. He also advocated for reforms to social security and welfare services, focusing on prevention and early support to ensure long-term economic and human stability.
