Villes de France and Citeo strengthen recycling partnership

Villes de France and the eco-organization Citeo have reaffirmed their partnership to improve the collection and recycling of packaging. During a strategic meeting in Paris, Gil Avérous, president of Villes de France, and Jean Hornain, director general of Citeo, discussed the future of the packaging treatment sector and the challenges of the circular economy.

A primary focus of the discussion was the evolution of the Extended Producer Responsibility (REP) principle. This framework holds companies responsible for the end-of-life management of the products they bring to market. The leaders emphasized the need to better define the respective roles of market players and local authorities, who manage the majority of collection services.

The partnership aims to improve environmental performance, specifically regarding collection and recycling rates. Additionally, the groups are prioritizing the development of reuse solutions, such as Citeo’s ‘ReUse’ program, to address challenges related to plastics and packaging.
