Villmergen: Man disarms armed robber to protect daughter

A man intervened during an armed robbery at a pizzeria in Villmergen, Aargau, to protect his daughter. Zelal Selimi, the establishment's owner, entered the premises after hearing disturbances and realized a masked assailant was threatening staff with a knife. Selimi reported that the weapon was only 40 to 50 centimeters away from his daughter's head.

Selimi managed to disarm the attacker by grabbing his wrist and forcing his arm behind his back before escorting him out of the establishment. Selimi sustained minor injuries to both hands during the struggle. The suspect, a 36-year-old Serbian national residing in the region, attempted to flee on an electric scooter but was intercepted shortly after by an off-duty police officer.

The Aargau Cantonal Police have detained the suspect and opened a criminal investigation. Local authorities are also investigating whether this incident is linked to a similar knife robbery at a bakery in the same area just two days prior.
