Villum Fonden grants 30 million DKK to boost Danish science education

Villum Fonden has announced a 30 million DKK grant to strengthen nature and technology education across nine Danish municipalities, including Aarhus, Hjørring, Lolland, Rødovre, Brønderslev, Hvidovre, Jammerbugt, Sorø, and Faxe. The initiative aims to address challenges identified in a 2025 report, which noted a lack of specialized facilities and equipment, as well as a shortage of teacher competencies in the subject.

The funding will benefit approximately 13,000 students and 300 teachers. The grants are designated for improving physical classroom environments, purchasing new equipment, and enhancing teachers' professional skills and collaborative networks.

In Hjørring Municipality specifically, 1.9 million DKK will be allocated to six schools: Højene Undervisningssted, Muldbjerg Undervisningssted, Sindal Undervisningssted, Tårs Skole, Hjørring Private Realskole, and Friskolen Skallerup. The goal is to foster investigative and experimental learning to build a stronger foundation for students' future scientific understanding.
