Vilnius energy infrastructure implements drone flight restrictions
Miesto gijų has established drone flight restriction zones over its energy infrastructure in Vilnius. In collaboration with Oro navigacija, the company has implemented a mechanism requiring both individuals and legal entities to obtain explicit permission before flying drones within these designated areas.
The restriction zones have been integrated into the official Lithuanian unmanned aircraft zone map, allowing operators to view limitations during flight planning. According to Edvinas Notkus, head of the business continuity team at Miesto gijų, these measures are intended to prevent unauthorized flights and ensure the reliable supply of heat to residents by strengthening protection against new threats.
Tautvydas Juškauskas, head of business development at Oro navigacija, noted that the map serves as a vital tool for safe and responsible drone usage. To obtain permission, operators must submit an application via the unmanned aircraft information system or the Lithuania Drone Map app at least three working days before the planned flight.
