Vilnius hosts international Corgi Race with 150 participants
The fifth annual Corgi Race Vilnius took place in Vingis Park, Lithuania, drawing approximately 150 corgis from nine countries, including the United States, Britain, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic. Organizer Edvinas Miskas Grinius noted the event's growth from 40 local dogs in its first year to an international gathering.
In the main 25-meter racing event, the American dog GG (Gustave the Girl Dog) took first place, followed by fellow American Mr. Corgington in second, and Lithuania's Moka in third. Beyond racing, the event featured several specialty competitions, including a costume parade where the dog Amigo won for a knight-themed outfit, a “smartest nose” scent challenge won by Latvian dogs Tora and Rusty, and a loudest bark contest won by Mr. Corgington, who registered 111 decibels.
Spectators watched as competitors often prioritized sniffing or playing over speed, a characteristic the organizers described as part of the event's charm.
