Magna Charta Universitatum welcomes 15 new member universities

Fifteen new universities have joined the Magna Charta Universitatum during a ceremony held at Vilnius University. The event concluded a three-day international academic gathering organized by Mykolas Romeris University and the Magna Charta Observatory.

Among the new members are three institutions from Ukraine, which organizers noted as particularly significant as they seek to maintain academic freedom and international cooperation despite the challenges posed by war. Other new signatories include two universities each from Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Germany, as well as representatives from Hungary, Spain, Italy, Georgia, Serbia, and Slovakia.

Joining the charter represents a formal commitment to institutional autonomy and academic freedom. During the ceremony, Professor Maryna Grynova, rector of Poltava V. G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University, highlighted that academic freedom currently faces global challenges such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and conflict.
