Vilnius hosts first CERN LHCb experiment conference

Vilnius University is hosting the LHCb Week Vilnius conference, a major scientific event for the CERN LHCb experiment. This marks the first time such a world-class scientific gathering is being held in Lithuania.

The conference is expected to draw approximately 600 participants, including scientists, engineers, and young researchers, with about 200 attending in person. The event serves as a strategic meeting to establish research priorities, coordinate institutional responsibilities, and ensure the international experiment moves in a unified direction.

Discussions will cover various technical and scientific aspects, including detector performance, data processing, software, physics analysis, and future experimental updates. The program also highlights Lithuanian technological and scientific achievements. The event includes high-level attendees such as President Gitanas Nausėda and CERN's head of research and computing, Gautier Hamel de Monchenault.

The LHCb experiment aims to investigate fundamental questions regarding the nature of the universe, specifically why matter dominates over antimatter. Vilnius University was officially accepted as an LHCb experiment institute in 2024.
