Vilnius increases public transport capacity for autumn season
Starting September 1, Vilnius will implement new autumn public transport schedules to accommodate rising passenger demand. A total of 633 buses and trolleybuses will be in operation, representing an 18 percent increase compared to the summer period. This includes 46 additional buses and 49 additional trolleybuses.
To manage this increased capacity, three carriers will provide services: UAB ‘Vilniaus viešasis transportas’ will operate 512 vehicles, while ‘Kautra’ and ‘Transrevis’ will manage the remainder. The adjustments aim to better connect rapidly growing residential districts such as Fabijoniškės, Perkūnkiemis, Baltupiai, Šiaurės miestelis, and Lazdynėliai.
Vilnius Vice Mayor Andrius Grigonis stated that the changes are based on real passenger traffic data and the city's growth trends. The city anticipates approximately 226 million trips via public transport this autumn as students and residents return to their regular routines.
