Vilnius tourism boost yields €833 million economic gain

In 2025, foreign visitors to Lithuania’s capital stayed 39.4% longer than in 2024, recording more than 2.15 million overnight stays. The average stay rose from 1.85 to 2.41 nights and spending per tourist reached €393, giving the city an estimated €833 million economic benefit. The largest source markets were Poland (104 k), Germany (≈85 k) and Latvia (62.5 k), with notable increases from Spain, Finland, Italy and Israel.

Tourism officials highlighted the impact, with Go Vilnius tourism agency head Vilma Daubarienė stating, “Last year we saw a clear trend – foreign guests spent considerably more time in Vilnius, which is crucial for the city’s economy.”

Separately, Lithuania and six other EU border states submitted a joint request to the European Commission urging targeted measures to strengthen tourism in the eastern frontier region. The appeal, signed by Economy and Innovation Minister Edvinas Grikšas, cites geopolitical tensions and the need for investment, better connectivity and resilience for small‑ and medium‑sized tourism operators.
