Vilsund Bridge nightly closures prompt extra ferry services

The Vilsund Bridge in Denmark is undergoing essential repairs to its expansion joints and machinery, resulting in nightly closures for vehicular traffic during week 38. The maintenance period began on Monday, September 14, and is scheduled to continue until Friday, September 18, at 05:15.

To accommodate travelers, the Næssundfærgen ferry has implemented extra night sailings between Mors and Thy. However, the economic viability of these additional services is a concern. Jens Bech-Mogensen, chairman of Næssundfærgens Venner, noted that while 16 cars used the ferry on one night, approximately 32 vehicles are required per night to make the extra sailings financially sustainable.

During the bridge repairs, pedestrians and cyclists may experience wait times of 10 to 15 minutes due to work on the bridge's movable sections. The Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) stated that the repairs are necessary to prevent more extensive and prolonged closures in the future.
