Vimperk municipal election results challenged in court

The establishment of the new municipal assembly in Vimperk has been delayed following a legal challenge to the recent election results. A citizen has filed a petition with the Regional Court in České Budějovice seeking to declare the voting invalid.

The elections, held on October 9 and 10, were won by the STAN party, which secured five mandates. Other parties including ODS, Naše Česko, and Vimperáci - Nezávislí also obtained seats.

Mayor Jaroslava Martanová stated that while the city has indications that the petition might be linked to a specific political group, the exact contents of the filing are not yet known. She expressed optimism that a repeat election is unlikely due to the margins between the competing groups. The court is expected to reach a decision within 20 days of receiving the petition on October 19. The inaugural assembly can only be convened within 15 days after the court's decision becomes legally binding.
