Vin Diesel turns 59, reflecting on his rise from club guard to action‑movie icon

Vin Diesel celebrated his 59th birthday on July 18, 2026. Born Mark Sinclair in Alameda, California, he grew up in New York and worked as a nightclub security guard and even sold light bulbs before breaking into film. In 1995 he wrote, directed, produced and starred in the short Multi‑Facial, which attracted Steven Spielberg’s attention at Cannes and led to a role in Saving Private Ryan.

His breakout came with the 2001 release of The Fast and the Furious, playing Dominic Toretto, a role that turned the franchise into a multibillion‑dollar saga. Diesel later headlined the Pitch Black series, The Chronicles of Riddick, and voiced Groot in the Marvel films. He remains private about his personal life, sharing it with Mexican model Paloma Jiménez and their three children. A new Fast & Furious installment, Fast Forever, is slated for release in March 2028.
