Vinachem restarts $500 million potash project in Laos

The Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) has restarted a potash mining and processing project in Khammouane Province, Laos, valued at nearly $500 million. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from both nations, including Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam and Lao Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Phuttavan Nanthavong.

Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam described the project restart as a milestone demonstrating the commitment of both parties to strategic economic cooperation. He emphasized that economic, trade, and investment cooperation serves as a material foundation for the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Lao Deputy Minister Phuttavan Nanthavong noted that the project is expected to optimize mineral resource value, promote deep processing, and establish a foundation for domestic industrial development. Specifically, the efficient extraction of potash is intended to support the local fertilizer production industry. Officials also stressed the importance of adhering to local laws, environmental protection, and labor safety throughout the project's operation.
