Vinay Kumar appointed head coach of Karnataka cricket team

Former Indian fast bowler Vinay Kumar has been named head coach of the Karnataka state cricket team ahead of the upcoming domestic season. Kumar, who captained Karnataka to consecutive Ranji Trophy titles in 2013‑14 and 2014‑15 and also oversaw Vijay Hazare and Irani Trophy wins, replaces Yere Gowda in the role. He will be supported by former teammate Deepak Chaugle as fielding coach, while bowling coach Mansoor Ali Khan is expected to continue.

Kumar’s playing career included stints with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in the IPL, followed by talent‑scouting duties for Mumbai Indians and a bowling‑coach position with MI Emirates in the ILT20. The Karnataka side, which won the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2024‑25, has been placed in Elite Group B for the 2026‑27 Ranji Trophy season and will look to add another domestic title under Kumar’s guidance.
