Vincent Chan reveals trauma of coming out 14 years ago

Former cable news anchor Vincent Chan has shared personal details regarding his coming out process 14 years ago via his YouTube channel. Chan, who left his eight-year career as a news anchor in May 2026, revealed that his decision to be honest about his sexual orientation led to a severe family crisis.

Chan described how his mother reacted with extreme emotional distress, including verbal hostility and threats of self-harm by jumping from a bridge. He noted that the tension between him and his family remains unresolved, but emphasized his refusal to engage in a deceptive marriage to satisfy parental expectations, stating it would be against his conscience.

Following his departure from news broadcasting, Chan has transitioned to working as a freelancer. He expressed hope that sharing his journey of navigating family trauma and maintaining personal integrity would provide strength and a reference for others facing similar life choices.
