Global corporate earnings and market shifts in energy, tech, and mining

Several major corporations have reported significant financial updates and strategic shifts. In the energy sector, Shell is projecting a third-quarter refinery margin of $42 per barrel with refinery utilization between 93% and 97%, while also noting the potential impact of low Rhine water levels. Meanwhile, BHP reported an underlying EBITDA of $33 billion for fiscal year 2026, driven largely by copper, which contributed over half of its results.

In the technology and automotive sectors, Microsoft and Alphabet are competing for a $5 trillion market capitalization, with both companies making massive investments in AI infrastructure. Alphabet's Google Cloud saw 82% growth in Q2 2026. In the electric vehicle market, Michael Burry has taken a position in BYD, citing its potential as a global cost leader due to vertical integration and its proprietary Blade battery technology, despite recent declines in BYD's revenue and profit.

Industrial and aerospace companies also showed strong momentum. GE Aerospace raised its 2026 outlook, forecasting revenue growth of 19% to 20% and an adjusted operating profit between $10.9 billion and $11 billion. Vincorion reported a 41.4% increase in revenue for the first nine months of 2026, leading the company to raise its full-year revenue guidance to up to €333 million. Conversely, Almonty faces challenges as tungsten prices have dropped 71.3% since March due to weak demand and high inventories.
