VinEnergo seeks environmental clearance for $418 million solar projects in Vietnam

VinEnergo, a renewable energy subsidiary of the Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, is seeking environmental clearance for two floating solar power projects in Lai Chau province. The proposed developments in northern Vietnam involve a combined estimated capital expenditure of approximately $418 million.

The projects intend to utilize water surfaces for solar photovoltaic panels, a method that avoids the land-use challenges common in mountainous regions like Lai Chau. Once regulatory approvals are secured, the company will move into detailed planning and construction to support increasing electricity demand in northern Vietnam.
