VinEnergo to develop 550MW floating solar projects in Lai Chau

VinEnergo is set to implement two floating solar power projects, Ban Chat 1 and Ban Chat 2, on the Ban Chat hydroelectric reservoir in Lai Chau province. The projects aim for a combined capacity of 550MW and will utilize approximately 692,200 bifacial solar panels, which absorb sunlight from both sides.

Ban Chat 1 has a planned capacity of 250MW with an estimated investment of nearly 5,368 billion VND, covering an area of 704 hectares. Ban Chat 2 is designed with a 300MW capacity and an investment exceeding 6,279 billion VND, spanning 813 hectares. Both facilities are expected to become operational by the fourth quarter of 2028.

To support the construction, VinCons launched a specialized 220-ton vessel in Lai Chau on July 31. The vessel is designed to assist with infrastructure construction, anchoring, and the installation of the floating solar systems.
