VinFast drives Vietnam's electric vehicle boom

Vietnam's homegrown automaker VinFast now controls about 95% of the country's electric‑car market and roughly 29% of all vehicles sold. Its affordable models such as the VF 3 and VF 5 have become best‑sellers, while the firm produces more than 400,000 electric scooters and e‑bikes each year. VinFast has built an extensive charging infrastructure, deploying over 150,000 charging ports nationwide, the largest network in Southeast Asia. The Vingroup‑owned ride‑hailing service Green SM operates thousands of electric taxis, further familiarising the public with EVs. Government policy has reduced registration fees, lowered taxes on battery electric vehicles and offered incentives for local production, helping to accelerate adoption across private and commercial transport sectors.
