Vĩnh Long court postpones trial of driver in fatal accident
The trial of Nguyễn Văn Bảo Trung, a truck driver accused of violating road traffic regulations that led to the death of a 14-year-old girl in Vĩnh Long, was postponed again on September 29.
During the proceedings at the Vĩnh Long Area 4 People's Court, the victim's mother, Nguyễn Thị Hiền, experienced a health crisis and had to be assisted from the courtroom by relatives and police. Following the request of the victim's lawyers and a suggestion from the People's Procuracy to ensure the rights of the victim's family, the Trial Panel decided to adjourn the session. The trial is scheduled to resume on October 13.
The incident occurred on September 4, 2024, when Trung was driving a truck on Provincial Road 901. While attempting to overtake a parked pickup truck, he swerved into the oncoming lane, causing a collision with two electric bicycles. The impact resulted in the death of Nguyễn Ngọc Bảo Trân.
The case has been marked by significant legal and personal turmoil. Following the accident, the victim's father, Nguyễn Vĩnh Phúc, shot the defendant, causing severe injuries, before committing suicide. The defendant, who reportedly suffers from brain injury-related impairments, was assisted into the courtroom by family members.
