Vietnam reports fatal drownings and traffic legal appeals

Several tragic incidents and legal developments have been reported across Vietnam. In Hanoi, two men drowned at Dinh Cong Lake on October 18 after a boat overturned while one individual was attempting to use bait to attract fish. Authorities recovered both bodies by late that night. This follows a separate drowning incident in Thanh Hoa province where a mother and her 6-year-old child died after being swept away by strong currents.

In Vinh Long, the family of a 14-year-old girl has appealed a court ruling against truck driver Nguyen Van Bao Trung. Trung was sentenced to 30 months in prison for a traffic violation that caused the girl's death in September 2024. The family is seeking a harsher sentence and further investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Additionally, traffic enforcement in Lao Cai has resulted in multiple fines for various violations, including running red lights, illegal overtaking, and using mobile phones while driving. Meanwhile, speed limits on the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway have been reduced from 120 km/h to 100 km/h.
