Vinh Long officials face prosecution over fatal student accident case
The Supreme People's Procuracy Investigation Agency has recommended the prosecution of six former officials in Tra On District, Vinh Long province, for failing to prosecute a guilty person. The case stems from a fatal traffic accident on September 4, 2024, involving a truck driven by Nguyen Van Bao Trung.
Investigation findings indicate that Trung caused the accident by overtaking a vehicle unsafely on Provincial Road 901, which resulted in the death of 14-year-old Nguyen Ngoc Bao Tran. However, the investigation suggests that former local police and procuracy officials shifted the primary blame onto the deceased student rather than the driver.
The six individuals facing prosecution include former high-ranking officials from the Tra On District Police and the Tra On District People's Procuracy, including former heads and investigators of these agencies.
