Vinh Long plans staff reductions despite absorbing 628 officials
Vinh Long province has initiated a multi-stage plan to restructure its workforce, aiming to reduce the number of civil servants by 881 people by the end of 2026. This follows the recent absorption of 628 part-time officials into official civil service roles.
The restructuring process is divided into three phases. The first phase, ending October 31, focuses on finalizing job positions and identifying redundant personnel. The second phase, concluding November 30, involves reassigning eligible staff and processing paperwork for early retirement or resignation. The final phase, ending December 31, aims to resolve the surplus to ensure the total number of officials does not exceed the assigned quota for 2026.
Currently, the province has 7,508 civil servants against an assigned quota of 6,986, necessitating an immediate reduction of 522 people. However, looking toward 2026, the province expects a total quota of 9,260 positions, which would create a projected shortage of 2,380 officials.
