Vinh Long police warn of QR code payment notification scams

Vinh Long Provincial Police have issued a warning regarding a new fraudulent tactic targeting merchants who use automated voice notification speakers for QR code payments.

Scammers exploit the convenience of these devices by playing back recorded audio from previous successful transactions. When a merchant hears a notification sound, they may mistakenly believe a new payment has been received. This often leads the merchant to hand over goods or provide cash change to the fraudster, even though no actual funds were transferred to the bank account.

Authorities advise all merchants to immediately verify their actual bank account balance via mobile banking applications rather than relying solely on audio notifications, especially during busy periods when distraction is more likely.
