Bahia authorities investigate xenophobia claims and doctor's death
The Civil Police of Bahia have launched two separate investigations following recent incidents in Salvador.
First, an inquiry has been opened against economist and influencer Rodrigo Constantino for potential xenophobia. The investigation follows social media videos in which Constantino described Bahia as ‘the cancer of Brazil’ and called Salvador ‘trash.’ Constantino has defended his remarks, stating they were cultural critiques rather than personal insults to the population.
Second, authorities are investigating the death of Vinicius Ramon Aguilera, a 35-year-old nutritionist from São Paulo. Aguilera was found dead in the Jardim Armação neighborhood on Saturday morning. Preliminary reports suggest he may have suffered a seizure, though investigators are awaiting forensic results. Witnesses reported that Aguilera appeared disoriented and was running from a motel where drugs were reportedly found in a room. Two individuals were taken to the police station for questioning, while a third person fled the scene.
