Vinitaly launches first‑ever Canadian exhibition, boosting Italian wine exports
For the first time in its 55‑year history, the Vinitaly wine fair held a dedicated event in Canada. From 22 to 25 June 2026, Vinitaly Canada gathered wine professionals, provincial alcohol‑distribution buyers, importers, agents, sommeliers, media and other stakeholders in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. The exhibition was organised by the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) together with Veronafiere and Vinitaly.
Italian wine imports to Canada reached C$218.8 million in the first four months of 2026, a 10.3 % increase over the same period in 2025. Italy’s market share rose from 23.45 % to 27.01 %, narrowing the gap with leading exporter France. Ambassador Alessandro Cattaneo said the launch “is a significant recognition of Canada’s role as one of the most important and dynamic markets for Italian wine”. The event also reflected record Canadian participation at Vinitaly Verona 2026 and Vinitaly USA 2025.
ICE’s expanded resources are being used to intensify promotional activities and support export missions, reinforcing Italy’s position as a rapidly growing supplier of premium and super‑premium wines to the Canadian market.
