Višnjan Observatory hosts University of Washington students for astronomical research
Twenty-eight students, including 24 from the University of Washington and four from Croatian institutions, are participating in an intensive ten-day astronomical research program at the Višnjan Observatory. The program, designed by Professor Mario Jurić, connects students with modern positional astronomy through the use of robotic telescopes located in both Croatia and Chile, alongside cloud-based artificial intelligence and advanced informatics.
The research utilizes the geographic distance between the two observatories to facilitate near-continuous data collection and processing; when it is daytime in Višnjan, it is nighttime in Chile. This initiative follows a concept established thirty years ago by a group of young astronomers in Višnjan who envisioned a future observatory centered on data rather than traditional telescope observation.
