Seattle Seahawks sold to Vinod Khosla group for record $9.6 billion
The estate of Microsoft co‑founder Paul G. Allen agreed to sell the Seattle Seahawks to an ownership group led by venture capitalist Vinod Khosla for a reported $9.612 billion, the highest price ever paid for an NFL franchise. The deal, announced in July 2026, follows the Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory and will direct the proceeds to the Paul Allen Foundation’s charitable initiatives.
The Khosla family, which includes Neeru Khosla and their son Neal, must divest Vinod Khosla’s minority stake in the San Francisco 49ers to satisfy NFL cross‑ownership rules. The sale remains subject to approval by at least 24 of the league’s 32 owners, with a vote expected in August. The team’s lease at Lumen Field runs through 2032, and the new owners have pledged to keep the franchise in Seattle.
If finalized, the transaction surpasses the previous NFL record set by the 2023 sale of the Washington Commanders for $6.05 billion and approaches the $10 billion sale of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, underscoring the growing market value of professional‑sports properties.
