Vinyl records surpass CD sales driven by Generation Z

Vinyl records are experiencing a significant resurgence in popularity, driven largely by Generation Z. In Spain, Promusica data for 2025 indicates that vinyl sales reached 2.18 million units, a 30% increase from the previous year, surpassing CD sales. In terms of revenue, vinyl generated 28.9 million euros, accounting for 69% of the physical music market.

This trend is mirrored globally. In the United States, the RIAA reports that vinyl outsold CDs for the third consecutive year in 2024, reaching 44 million units and generating $1.4 billion in revenue, the highest figure since 1984.

Research from the Vinyl Alliance suggests this shift is not merely driven by nostalgia. Approximately 76% of Generation Z followers purchase records at least once a month, and 80% own a turntable. Many young consumers use vinyl as a way to disconnect from digital life and support their favorite artists, such as Rosalía and Taylor Swift. Artists like Pablo López and Dani Martín are also utilizing limited edition and signed vinyl releases to strengthen connections with their fanbases.
