Viola Davis celebrates birthday as reports suggest ‘Waller’ series is in limbo

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn celebrated actress Viola Davis's birthday by sharing a behind-the-scenes photograph from the 2021 film ‘The Suicide Squad’. The image features Davis alongside Idris Elba. Gunn praised Davis, who portrays the character Amanda Waller, noting she is one of the finest actors he has worked with. Davis is expected to continue her role as Waller within the new DC Universe (DCU) projects, including the animated series ‘Creature Commandos’.

Despite Davis's continued involvement in the franchise, reports suggest that a standalone ‘Waller’ television series may no longer be in active development. While the project was originally announced as part of the ‘Chapter One: Gods and Monsters’ slate, DC Studios is reportedly shifting its strategic focus toward theatrical releases, leaving several original television projects in limbo.
