Violence against healthcare and security staff reported in Spanish hospitals
Healthcare and security staff in Spain are facing increasing levels of violence. In the Castilla-La Mancha region, the Hospital de Guadalajara has recorded the highest number of assaults in the region so far this year, with 55 incidents reported between January and August. According to data from the union CSIF, verbal aggression accounts for over 95% of these cases, though physical assaults and property damage have also occurred. The union noted that many incidents may go unreported due to fear or perceived futility.
In Almería, the UGT union has raised alarms regarding the Hospital de Poniente, where two security guards were subjected to brutal physical assaults within a single week. One worker suffered a broken lip and ankle injury, while another required surgery for a hand injury. The union is calling for increased protective resources, more personnel, and the recognition of a hardship allowance for private security staff working in the health service.
