Violence against women in Italy prompts calls for stronger support networks

A recent femicide in Florence has highlighted the structural nature of violence against women in Italy. The incident underscores the necessity for specialized training to recognize patterns of control and dependency, as well as the importance of robust support networks.

In the Pisa province, support services include listening desks in Cascina, Ponsacco, Vicopisano, Vecchiano, Fauglia, and Pontedera. Additionally, a university desk managed by the Anti-Violence Center serves students and researchers at the University of Pisa, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, and Scuola Normale. Support infrastructure also includes three shelters, a second-stage reception house, and job orientation programs designed to help women achieve economic autonomy.
