Violence against women reported in Bento Gonçalves and São Gonçalo

Reports from different regions in Brazil indicate rising levels of violence against women. In Bento Gonçalves, the State Public Security Secretariat (SSP-RS) recorded 310 police reports related to domestic and family violence between January and August 2026. Threats were the most frequent occurrence with 165 registrations, followed by 123 cases of bodily injury. Additionally, 22 instances of sexual violence or rape within the domestic environment were reported during this period.

In São Gonçalo, the Alberto Torres State Hospital (HEAT) reported a 29% increase in medical assistance provided to women victims of violence in August 2026 compared to August 2025. The hospital treated 22 women in August, with physical assaults being the primary cause, followed by injuries from knives and firearms. Concurrently, the Special Women's Care Police Station (DEAM-SG) in São Gonçalo registered 276 occurrences related to violence against women in August, resulting in five arrests.
