Violence and resistance highlighted in Michoacán protests and art exhibition
During a credit delivery event for women in Apatzingán, Michoacán, attendees protested against the ongoing violence in the Tierra Caliente region. Demonstrators held signs directed at President Claudia Sheinbaum, denouncing homicides, forced displacements, disappearances, and the impact of landmines. Victims specifically called for government attention regarding the lack of psychological, medical, and housing support for those fleeing criminal groups.
In Guadalajara, the Museum of Journalism and Graphic Arts (MUPAG) is hosting 'Querida remitente', a collective exhibition curated by Andra Fuentes. The exhibition uses photography, printmaking, and documentary archives to explore women's resistance against gender-based violence and economic inequality. Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s essay 'Three Guineas', the collection seeks to represent social conflicts through a female perspective, focusing on memory and collective struggle.
