Violence erupts between hockey fans in Switzerland

Clashes broke out between supporters of Lausanne Hockey Club and HC Fribourg-Gottéron following a match on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The violence began inside the ice rink around 10:05 PM, where fans from both sides attempted to engage in physical altercations. Private security personnel were forced to use pepper spray to contain the crowd, and a plexiglass barrier at the edge of the rink was shattered during the unrest.

Later, at approximately 10:45 PM, a second incident occurred at the Prilly-Malley station. Two Lausanne fans were attacked by Fribourg ultras who had reportedly disembarked from a bus returning to Fribourg. The victims sustained serious injuries and were transported to the CHUV University Hospital in Lausanne. Personal belongings were also stolen during the assault.

The Lausanne Public Prosecutor has opened a criminal investigation into the incidents. Detectives from the security police are conducting investigations in collaboration with anti-hooliganism specialists from both the Vaud and Fribourg cantonal police forces. Authorities have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward.
