Violence in Mexico: Shootout in Veracruz and body found in Culiacán
In Veracruz, a police raid in the El Espinal Bajo neighborhood of Orizaba resulted in a violent confrontation on Tuesday night. During the execution of search warrants, ministerial agents were met with gunfire, leading to a multi-hour shootout involving the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), and the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR).
The clash left one suspect dead and three ministerial agents wounded, with one sustaining serious injuries. Authorities reported that four individuals were detained and two people, who were being held against their will, were rescued during the operation.
In a separate incident in Culiacán, Sinaloa, a body was discovered wrapped in a green blanket in a vacant lot behind the San Isidro commercial plaza. The discovery was reported in the afternoon on Tuesday. While the identity of the victim has not been released, unofficial reports suggest the individual may have been killed elsewhere and abandoned at the site.
