Duque de Caxias: Gang violence leaves one dead and seven arrested

A violent confrontation between rival criminal factions in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, resulted in one death and seven arrests during the early hours of Saturday. The clashes, reportedly involving members of the Comando Vermelho and Terceiro Comando Puro, triggered intense gunfire and led to the blockade of major transit routes.

Criminals used a truck and a bus to obstruct the BR-040 highway (Rodovia Washington Luís), causing significant delays and panic among motorists. In another incident, suspects used three urban buses to block an avenue. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) reported several attempts to block the highway, including the burning of tires.

Police recovered four rifles, a pistol, ammunition, and two grenades. Among those detained is an individual known as “Colete,” who is identified by authorities as a high-ranking member of the Comando Vermelho who recently defected from the Terceiro Comando Puro. Law enforcement has since stabilized the area and increased patrolling.
