Violence in Sinaloa fuels forced displacement and a series of plush‑pig killings

The Secretariat of Welfare and Sustainable Development (SEBIDES) reported that violence remains the chief driver of forced displacement in Sinaloa, with 3,619 families officially registered as displaced and the true number likely higher. The displacement is concentrated in mountainous municipalities such as Badiraguato, Concordia and San Ignacio, and is compounded by natural hazards, drought and lack of basic infrastructure.

In Culiacán, recent attacks left two people dead and a 19‑year‑old injured. The assaults were carried out with high‑power firearms, and in a disturbing pattern, a pink plush pig was found beside each victim. This is the seventh homicide in the state where the toy has been placed at the scene, prompting a joint investigation by state and federal authorities.

Authorities continue to run support programs for displaced families while seeking to address the underlying violence that drives both the mass movement of residents and the spate of killings.
