Violence in South Sudan and Mexico results in multiple fatalities

In South Sudan, at least 71 people were killed during ethnic and intercommunal clashes in the city of Rumbek. The violence reportedly began in the Nyangkot area following confrontations between armed youths from the Nyang and Pakam communities. The conflict subsequently spread to Rumbek, prompting the interim government to deploy joint security forces to regain control and protect civilians.

Separately, in Sinaloa, Mexico, at least 22 people have died during five distinct episodes of violence within the Aguaruto, Culiacán, and El Castillo, Mazatlán prisons between May and October. The most significant violence occurred at the El Castillo facility, where two recent clashes resulted in 12 deaths, including a two-year-old child visiting a relative. Authorities attribute the prison violence to ongoing disputes between organized crime groups.
