Violence incidents reported in Brazilian schools

Two separate incidents of violence involving students have been reported in Brazilian educational institutions.

In Feira de Santana, Bahia, a 13-year-old student lost vision in one eye after being struck with a piece of wood during a dispute with another student at Colégio Estadual Hilda Carneiro. The victim's family reported that the student had been experiencing bullying prior to the attack and had previously notified school administration. Following the incident, the student underwent surgery at the Hospital Geral do Estado in Salvador and will require an ocular prosthesis and psychological support.

In the Icoaraci district of Belém, a 12-year-old girl sustained deep cuts to her head after being attacked with a knife at a private school. A 13-year-old student was apprehended following the incident, which was interrupted by a teacher who disarmed the attacker. The Civil Police are investigating the case as an infraction analogous to attempted qualified homicide, focusing on how the weapon was brought into the school.
