Munich court trial begins for man accused of repeat rape

A 26-year-old man, identified as Ahmad A., is standing trial at the Munich I Regional Court for the alleged gang rape of a 29-year-old woman. The incident reportedly occurred on July 15, 2025, at the Wittelsbacherbrücke, where the victim was allegedly attacked by three men.

The case has drawn significant attention because the defendant had previously been in pre-trial detention for the suspected rape of a 16-year-old girl earlier in 2025. He was released from custody after approximately 40 days because prosecutors argued that the detention was no longer proportionate, as the victim was not immediately available for questioning.

Following his release, the defendant is accused of participating in the July attack alongside two other men. The prosecution is presenting evidence regarding the escalation of the encounter and the subsequent actions of the suspects.
