Violence spikes in Guadalupe y Calvo as Sinaloa Cartel factions clash

The Southern District Prosecutor, Guillermo Hinojos Hinojos, reported a rise in violent incidents in the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo, Chihuahua, linked to a territorial dispute among criminal groups. At least three factions are active: two branches of the Sinaloa Cartel – one tied to “El Guano” and another led by “Mayito Flaco” – and the criminal organization La Línea, which entered the area earlier this year.

The conflict is driven by the strategic value of the municipality, which sits on routes for drug trafficking, mineral extraction and forest resource exploitation. Alliances such as Mayito Flaco’s partnership with Los Salgueiro have intensified clashes with both El Guano’s group and La Línea, raising insecurity in the region that borders the states of Sinaloa and Durango, known locally as the “Triángulo Dorado.”
