Malishevë shooting kills 25-year-old pregnant woman

A 25-year-old pregnant woman, Jetlira Foniqi, was killed following a shooting in the village of Kervasari, Malishevë, on the night of August 23. She was 34 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

Authorities have identified her husband, 26-year-old Egzon Bytyqi, as the primary suspect. Police discovered the couple with gunshot wounds in their bedroom. While the woman passed away at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo, her husband remains in critical condition, intubated and on a ventilator. Some reports suggest the incident may have been a murder-suicide attempt.

The Prosecutor's Office in Gjakovë has initiated investigations for “serious murder” and “unauthorized possession, control, or possession of weapons.” A firearm, believed to belong to the suspect's father and held with permission, was seized at the scene. The case has drawn significant public attention and condemnation from officials regarding domestic violence and women's safety in the region.
